For the last job today we are examining two Laptops at Bridge End in Warwick, One is not installing updates and the other is getting very hot and over heating. The first one was found to be a corrupt update so we uninstalled deleted the cache and reinstalled the updates .The Second required dismantling and the fan cleaning, it had got very clogged up with dust.

Update we tested the power supply unit and the battery and they came up as working fine, It was determined that the power supply side of the main board was the fault, and cost wise was going to be to expensive to repair, So the customer has ordered a new Laptop and we will recover the data from this one then.

Update: The main thing effecting the speed of this Dell Studio laptop was the webcontrol software supplied was hogging resources so we removed this and other programs by editing the registry.
