Wireless installation trouble shooting and computer repair / clean up at Tysoe between Banbury and Stratford upon Avon in Warwickshire

Good morning, today we are with Tachman Central at Tysoe between Banbury and Stratford on Avon in Warwickshire.

We are here because the customer has just moved offices and after a week of being fine the computers are failing to connect to the internet.

We tested the BT broadband and found it top be working correctly 7 Megabit download seemed very good for a village location .

The customers Acer laptop computer required the network stack drivers and settings to be reset and an easier to remove trojan virus was removed by running a malware scan whilst at it we also removed toolbars and other unneeded programs and cleaned up the registry.

On the desktop computer after checking was found to have a faulty network cable.

Whilst here it was noted that the customer was having troubles with an Android phone (Samsung Galaxy Ace), The customer had been complaining it lacked memory and also had been using the included software and a cable to transfer pictures what I suggested was that he should use Dropbox and have that transfer the pictures as the phone comes with only 2 GB RAM we removed any unused programs and installed Dropbox although its a bit slow to upload from the phone after the initial run of 80 photos it seemed to work fine.

Update: The Acer Aspire 5738 / 5338 laptop computer was repaired successfully, and as the machine was 2.5 years old it seemed prudent to change the CR2032 battery that holds the time date and CMOS information as they can last 3 to 5 years and normally would be inaccessible.

Virus removal and computer maintenance near Kineton

This morning we are at Combrook Near Compton Verney between Wellesbourne and Kineton in Warwickshire to remove a root kit virus called “Smart Fortress 2012” this is going to be a scam to take money for a so called antivirus that claims you have thousands of virus’s or registry issues – standard scare tactic should be removable by editing the registry and running a Malwarebytes Scan.

Update : This malware was more trouble to remove than the previous version we had to run system restore and choose a date earlier than when the virus arrived, followed by a check on the registry and a full Malwarebytes scan.

Access Point Installation at Kineton in Warwickshire

Good afternoon, We are now with a customer on the Southam Road Near Gaydon and Kineton in Warwickshire, We are here to test the viability of using Netgear wireless access points to extend the range of the customers wireless broadband from an office in the main house to an annex at the other side of the building, After surveying and testing several set ups it was found to be cost prohibitive at this time, The issue here is that the building is made from thick cotswold Stone and although we could get a signal though its would require a minimum of 3 wireless access points to keep the signal strength high enough to use, So may be worth another look when the prices come down but at the moment it is cheaper to install another line and pay for broadband for a few years.
