This morning we are at Combrook Near Compton Verney between Wellesbourne and Kineton in Warwickshire to remove a root kit virus called “Smart Fortress 2012” this is going to be a scam to take money for a so called antivirus that claims you have thousands of virus’s or registry issues – standard scare tactic should be removable by editing the registry and running a Malwarebytes Scan.
Update : This malware was more trouble to remove than the previous version we had to run system restore and choose a date earlier than when the virus arrived, followed by a check on the registry and a full Malwarebytes scan.
Further Update : it turns out this arrived via an email claiming to be a Federal Express missed delivery and the customer had opened an attachment
This afternoon i am on Grange Gardens in Wellesbourne to see a computer that is giving a blue screen of death and rebooting. To be honest the machine is fairly aged but the data is important so we booted in to recovery console and attempted to read the drive this resulted in the “Drive can not be enumerated” error message and we then attempted to run a check disk on the harddrive, this is a 50/50 situation and takes a good 60 to 90 minutes to complete but as the data was urgent we tried it and suceeded. The important thing to remember is that although it was working straight after there still might be an issue with the hardrive so we left the customer backing up his data to an external hardrive.
UPDATE as is the case in murphy’s law 2 weeks after we did this the computer died again but the customer was happy due to the fact his data had been saved and he had taken on board the warning and updated his backup each time he used.
For the next job this morning we are at a guest house in Wellesbourne, Warwickshire installing a wireless bridge system of access points, The main objective of this is to share the buildings internet connection on the first floor with at the other end of the building for the guests to use, We managed to accomplish this using only 2 access points one which has to be wired to the main router and the other in a strategic location on the first floor on route to the room requiring the access.
This morning we are at Wellesbourne in Warwickshire repairing a desktop computer that is running slow one issue that may occur here is that if the fan on the processor is pulling the air towards the heat-sink there will be a large deposit on it which will increase the heat and then the processor will shut down sections of the processor in case of failure. This one has a bit of a carpet on the processors heat sink but the main issue has been caused by some malware which we removed by editing the registry and running a Malwarebytes scan

Good afternoon for our Last job today we are with a customers in Wellesbourne, We are here because the customer computer is not booting up and giving a “non-system disk or disk error replace and strike any key when ready” error to repair this we loaded the recovery console from CD and tried to read the drive this failed so we ran the recovery program this claimed to have fixed many faults and the drive was read able again. For the next job today we are at Alfresco Design Associates Limited at Wellesbourne in Warwickshire, We are here because the customers machine has been intermittently rebooting, This appeared to be a thermal issue on the processor as it was reaching 67 degrees C, The computer was fixed by removing dust and carpet hair from the top of the processors heat sink and fan when retested the processor was only reaching 36 degrees C.
As a general rule Intel processors halve the speed of the processor as soon as the temperature goes above 50 degrees Celsius to compensate and try to reduce the heat so if your reading above 50 degrees Celsius check your Processor Fan and make sure its working and not clogged up.
